SAVE THE DATE
Sunday, July 1, Noon
Independence Celebration Walk and Picnic sponsored by the Diocese of Des Moines
6th Avenue & High Street to the east lawn of the Capitol

The Walk and Picnic are part of a national “Fortnight for Freedom” from June 21 through July 4, an opportunity to “emphasize both our Christian and American heritage of liberty.” As Americans and believers, our church continues to express serious concerns with the current HHS mandate which restricts religious liberty. This walk and picnic will both celebrate our long-standing religious freedom and raise awareness of the current threat to its future.

PSALM OF THE DAY
Today is the day to say: To you, O Lord, I lift up my eyes.

Psalm 91 is a prayer expressing devotion to God with touching comparisons
as … the eyes of a servant on their master.
or… the eyes of a maid on the hands of her mistress.
Those comparisons are a disconnect for us in our lives but we are challenged to define our own comparisons.
What is it that you look upon with love & devotion that you could offer to God?

Today is the day to say: To you, O Lord, I lift up my eyes.

GOSPEL
Mk 12:18-27
Some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus and put this question to him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us, If someone’s brother dies, leaving a wife but no child,
his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother. Now there were seven brothers. The first married a woman and died, leaving no descendants. So the second brother married her and died, leaving no descendants, and the third likewise. And the seven left no descendants. Last of all the woman also died. At the resurrection when they arise whose wife will she be? For all seven had been married to her.” Jesus said to them, “Are you not misled
because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? When they rise from the dead,
they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven. As for the dead being raised, have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God told him, I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not God of the dead but of the living. You are greatly misled.”

St. Norbert

A different world cannot be built by indifferent people.

St. Norbert was not indifferent! He founded a religious Order and they had monumental tasks:
combated rampant heresies (particularly regarding the Blessed Sacrament),
revitalized many of the faithful who had grown indifferent and dissolute,
effected peace and reconciliation among enemies.

Norbert gave all credit for their success to God’s power. They found help in devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, they praised God for converting heretics, reconciled numerous enemies and rebuilt faith in indifferent believers.

St. Norbert … pray for us that we make a difference in our world.

1150 KWKY CATHOLIC RADIO PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You commanded your followers to go out and preach the Gospel to all creation. Your servant Blessed Pope John Paul II proclaimed that “radio offers perhaps the closest equivalent today of what Jesus was able to do with large groups through His preaching.”

We ask your guidance for the ministry of 1150 KWKY Catholic Radio that we may affectively and consistently convey your message to Iowa as well as the Diocese of Des Moines and remain faithful to the teachings and values of the Catholic Church. Empower the 1150 KWKY Catholic radio staff to walk with you and to labor beside you in their efforts.

Inspire all listeners today through the grace of your Holy Spirit to understand more fully your desire for them and through the ministry of Catholic radio, touch their hearts and change their lives. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
